Rasmussen: Obama and 'Generic Republican Candidate' Tied

In the latest results from a hypothetical 2012 election matchup, Rasmussen reports that President Obama and an as-yet unknown Republican are polling pretty much the same. President Obama picked up 44% of the vote, along with the generic Republican candidate at 44% as well. Undecided voters ranked at 8%, with 3% favoring some other candidate.

Over the past five weeks, the generic Republican has been polling a couple of points ahead of President Obama. The 2012 election is still a long way off, and who knows what will change between now and then or who the chosen candidate will be, but it seems that a GOP takeover of the White House could be within the realm of possibility if the Republicans stick to their guns. Let's try not to mess this up.
