Our survey found that more than one in three African-Americans support the movement. Moreover, the data revealed that 32 percent are also likely to vote for a congressional candidate whom the tea party supports. The number of self-identified tea partiers themselves are about thirty-three percent overall, regardless of race — so this poll essentially confirms that African Americans support the movement at the same rate that other segments of the population do. That takes the claims of tea party racism down a few notches.
