Beware the Never-Paxtons

The U.S. Senate primaries in Texas are finally over after burning more than $100 million in cash on the tiniest hope of keeping a deeply-unpopular incumbent in office. Now one of the most effective Attorneys General in Texas history is officially the Republican nominee, but will the more establishment elements of the party come out to support him?

The answer for many is simply going to be no. Too many of these people will experience something similar to Trump Derangement Syndrome as November nears. Never Paxtons doesn’t exactly have a good ring to it, so perhaps they will find a new term to call themselves, but you can be certain that they will come out of the woodwork in droves. It's the standard practice for this crowd when their guy doesn't win.

This is the life of the establishment-heavy Republicans. They turn their nose up at supporting those who are truly on the right wing in primaries, even if the politician that they back sits on his hands instead of advancing common-sense legislation. No, we must instead support the individual who balks on the Second Amendment and immigration over someone who doesn’t betray their constituents.

As I’m sure many of you have seen online, scores of these people aren’t just saying that they will sit out in November. They are openly declaring their support for the most radical Democrat to ever secure a state-wide nomination in Texas: James Talarico. They would rather vote for the guy who “loves trans kids” and believes that God is non-binary simply because their Beautiful Loser got what they deserved.

Our side will hold our nose and vote for the “good” guy even when the ideal candidate loses in the primary. Why? Because we understand that what the Democrats want is often fundamentally evil. Should we not support the candidate who would at least stop the worst case scenario from taking office? Of course. And for his part, Cornyn has said that he will support Paxton in the general.

Not the Never-Trumpers. Not the Never-Paxtons. They would rather take their ball and go home.

The good guy won the primary in Texas tonight. Now it’s time to show up en masse in November.
