Democrats aren’t very happy about President Donald Trump’s Wednesday speech on Iran.
Left-leaning politicians and media figures across the country condemned Trump’s speech, arguing that he failed to explain the war’s legal basis, its cost, or when it will end.
Trump addressed the nation for almost 20 minutes, restating his reasoning for the war. He indicated that the U.S.-Israeli bombardment will continue for another two to three weeks and suggested that if Tehran doesn’t come to the negotiating table, the military will target Iran’s energy infrastructure.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wasted no time in complaining about Trump’s comments. He called it a “rambling, disjointed and pathetic presidential war speech” and predicted the offensive “will be considered one of the greatest policy blunders in the history of our nation.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) slammed Trump for bypassing Congress and claimed he was putting U.S. troops in danger. "Iran is a bad actor and must be aggressively confronted for its human rights violations, nuclear ambitions, support of terrorism and the threat it poses to our allies like Israel and Jordan in the region," he said. "However, absent exigent circumstances, the Trump administration must seek authorization for the preemptive use of military force that constitutes an act of war."
Anyone watching that speech has no idea whether Trump is escalating or deescalating the war with Iran. But to be fair, neither does he so🤷♂️.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) also chimed in, calling on the Senate to “block the use of U.S. forces in hostilities against Iran.”
"Has President Trump learned nothing from decades of U.S. meddling in Iran and forever wars in the Middle East? Is he too mentally incapacitated to realize that we had a diplomatic agreement with Iran that was keeping its nuclear program in check, until he ripped it up during his first term?" Kaine said.
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said Trump “really sounded and looked quite old, quite low energy, quite exhausted, and not particularly focused.”

Nicole Wallace said Trump “missed the opportunity to speak honestly and frankly” to the families of service members who were killed during the conflict. "All presidents deal with things that are out of their control,” she continued. “And the American public doesn't actually judge a politician for things that are out of their control. They judge a politician based on their candor … and how they handle the facts as they exist."
The war is approaching the 60-day mark. When this time period passes, the president will be required to seek approval from Congress under the War Powers Act to continue the military operation.
