Former President Donald Trump missed death by millimeters. Trump was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. It seems like an eternity ago, compounded by the media’s concerted effort to suppress this event out of fear that it would help the former president. Some reactions were appalling, with the headlines going into overdrive to sanitize the incident. The New York Times, to the shock of no one, was horrific with their front page header. Yet, they weren’t the worst ones.
It's been 18 days since the assassination attempt on Trump’s life. We’re trying to sift through the details and find answers regarding how a rooftop overlooking the rally site, with a clear vantage point to the stage, could be left unprotected. Those answers will not be forthcoming as the Secret Service, which has come under intense scrutiny, has become beyond cagey.
So, as we enter August, let’s forget that The Denver Post had the worst headline for this historic event: “Gunman dies in attack.”

Again, I thought The New York Times would take home the gold, but the Denver Post is the undisputed winner. We do not hate our media enough.

Joy Reid fears that, after the assassination attempt on Trump, "the media will acquiesce" to Republicans and not label Trump "the greatest purveyor and promoter of political violence...since George Wallace."

July was total insanity. The 2024 election went from run-of-the-mill to historic in 10 seconds flat. The enthusiasm was at the back of the Republican Party. The Democrats imploded following Joe Biden’s disastrous June 27 debate against Donald Trump. Biden was sinking the Democratic Party ticket, setting the stage for an epic trouncing at the polls. Then, Trump got shot in mid-July. The party united at the convention the following week. Finally, on July 21, Biden dropped out of the race, handing the reins to Kamala Harris.

A former president was nearly killed, a sitting president quit, and a vice president who no Democrat has ever voted for in a primary is now taking up the mantle, resetting the entire election—all this happening in one month. We’ve all aged 15 years.
