Biden's New Border Policy Just an Attempt to 'Mask the Crisis He Created,' Says Gov. Abbott

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott didn't waste time pointing out the serious flaws with President Joe Biden's latest attempt to look like he's doing something to address the border he plunged into chaos.

The Biden administration, through the Department of Homeland Security helmed by impeached Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, announced a mere "proposed rule" DHS said would "allow statutory bars to asylum to be applied much earlier in the process." Like most of the Biden administration's "efforts," this too won't do anything to remedy the crisis Biden created starting on day one of his administration.

"President Biden inherited the most secure border with the lowest illegal immigration since last century," Gov. Abbott reminded in a statement. "With the stroke of a pen, he proudly ended those secure border policies and opened the border to more than 11 million illegal immigrants from more than 150 different countries—including known terrorists, murderers, and rapists," the Lone Star State Republican warned of consequences stemming from executive orders issued by Biden ending Trump-era policies and stopping construction on border security infrastructure.

"Now, desperately grasping to salvage his failed presidency, President Biden attempts the most minimal action possible, hoping to mask the crisis he created," Abbott emphasized.

"To be clear, President Biden’s feckless proposals, which he could have done years ago, do nothing to slow the record-breaking illegal immigration," said Abbott. "Most notably, President Biden sidesteps actually enforcing the laws already enacted by Congress. President Biden is not just authorized—he is required—to deny illegal entry, detain illegal immigrants, and build border barriers."

Yet, Biden does not. Instead, he claims he's powerless to do the very things he's empowered and required to do, even after he used his authority to create the crisis. He could reverse those orders to address the crisis, but he suddenly doesn't believe governing by executive fiat is legal.

As Gov. Abbott also noted, it's "[m]aybe worse" that "President Biden attacks Texas for simply doing what Congress compelled him to do. Texas is building a border wall, installing hundreds of miles of razor wire and buoy barriers, and deploying thousands of Texas National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers," recapped Abbott of his state's work that has worked in the absence of proper federal border security operations.

"Our efforts have led to a substantial decline in illegal immigration into Texas while it remains on the rise in other border states," noted Abbott of his success — as it turns out, enforcing the law and the international border is an effective strategy.

"Operation Lone Star is working, and President Biden would do well to follow our lead, or get out of the way.”
