Trump or DeSantis: This Republican Explains His 2024 Endorsement

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) announced his endorsement for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL.), while explaining why he thinks the Florida man is better for the 2024 GOP nominee than former President Trump.

Roy took to social media to broadcast his "100 percent" support for DeSantis, saying that the United States needs the governor in D.C. to reverse the Left's radical policies.

"I stand 100% alongside this wonderful woman & her husband, Ron DeSantis because they are truly good & decent people. America needs THAT again," Roy wrote. "I proudly fight to be our GOP nominee for President because it's time to Meet The Moment & WIN again."

The Texas congressman's announcement came in response to Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis's post in which she shared photos of their tour in Iowa from last week.

Roy hinted at his support for DeSantis in March, even before the governor launched his 2024 campaign.

"The next President of the United States must be a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course," Roy said. "America needs a leader who will truly defend her and empower the people against the destructive force of unrestrained government and corporate excess, profligate spending, and woke cultural indoctrination. That leader is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis."

In response to Roy's announcement, a social media user said it doesn't matter whether he supports DeSantis or Trump but suggested he should use his platform to discredit Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and former first lady Michelle Obama.

Roy said, "Well – @RonDeSantis is debating Newsom on @FoxNews next week. Trump is not showing up to debates…"

The Texas congressman's endorsement comes after Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-Iowa) voiced his support for DeSantis.

According to a RealClearPolitics poll, Trump is leading the GOP candidates by 59.8 percent, compared to 13.5 percent for DeSantis.
