House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) has some advice for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla) regarding his ongoing feud with Walt Disney World, advising him to quit the antics and start negotiating.
“I’d give him the same advice I gave President Biden,” McCarthy told CNBC’s Squawk Box. “Why wouldn’t you sit down and negotiate and talk? If there are differences, you can always find ways that you can solve this problem.”
The Republican criticized DeSantis’s approach to the woke corporation’s pushback against the governor’s efforts to protect children from the Left’s sexually-charged ideology.
“This is a big employer inside Florida,” McCarthy continued. “I think the governor should sit down with them. I don’t think the idea of building a prison next to a place that you bring your family is the best idea. I think it’d be much better if you sat down and solved the problems.”
Earlier this month, DeSantis floated the idea of building a prison next to the park now that he has the power to make state projects on the land next to Disney.
On Tuesday, the progressive corporation filed a lawsuit against DeSantis alleging it has been attacked as the subject of a “targeted campaign of government retaliation” for “protected speech,” adding that the Florida governor has hurt its business operations.
“If you’re going to be a large employer inside this state, you should also abide by the rules and run your business and don’t think you should get into politics,” McCarthy continued. “You can take whatever position you want, but remember, if you’re elected to run a business, that’s what your shareholders want you to do.”
McCarthy isn’t the first Republican to criticize DeSantis’s fight with Disney.
As the governor burns bridges with the corporation, 2024 Republican presidential candidate, Nikki Haley said she would welcome Disney to make grounds in her state of South Carolina.
“If Disney would like to move their hundreds of thousands of jobs to South Carolina and bring the billions of dollars with them, I’ll let them know I’ll be happy to meet them in South Carolina and introduce them to the governor and the legislature that would welcome it,” she said.
On the contrary, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla) praised DeSantis for standing up to woke corporations that are deteriorating the nation.
"I don’t have a problem with taking on Disney. I think the fundamental question here is if what we’re trying to fix is the fact that Disney had some arrangement that gave them governmental-type powers. I think that’s a perfectly legitimate thing," Rubio told Fox News.
