Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel sharply criticized Gov. Gavin Newsom's (D) decision to proceed with the process of sending all voters in Califonia mail-in ballots for the election in November.
The executive order is out of concern for the health of voters because of the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, Newsom said in a statement.
"No Californian should be forced to risk their health in order to exercise their right to vote. Mail-in ballots aren’t a perfect solution for every person, and I look forward to our public health experts and the Secretary of State’s and the Legislature’s continued partnership to create safer in-person opportunities for Californians who aren’t able to vote by mail," he said.
"It is an absolute brazen power grab. And beyond that, Brian, it will inject chaos into the election process in California," McDaniel told "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday.
"So what he is talking about is just sending ballots directly to registered voters. In L.A. County alone there are 1.5 million more registered voters than there are adults in the state because California never cleans up their voter rolls, so there will be ballots littering the streets," she explained. "And if you don’t believe me, look at what is happening in Nevada. We have a website ProtectTheVote.com where we’re showing thousands of ballots just littering mailboxes and garbage cans because Clark County did the exact same thing, they sent ballots directly to inactive voters. Not a single state in this country that does mail voting sends ballots to inactive voters."
The GOP has sued Newsom to block the order from being carried.
