Two GOP Congressmen Sworn-In After Special Election Wins

The GOP’s minority in the House of Representatives gained two new lawmakers on Tuesday. After winning their special elections in California and Wisconsin, respectively, Reps. Mike Garcia (R-CA) and Tom Tiffany (R-WI) were sworn in by Speaker Pelosi.

The additions of Reps. Garcia and Tiffany leave the Democrats with a slimmer majority, with vacancies yet to fill.

Both special election victories represent decisive wins for Republicans. Rep. Garcia’s win in particular is noteworthy, given that former Rep. Katie Hill just flipped the seat in 2018. These wins give the GOP a morale boost as Republicans seek to take the majority in the House back in November.
