Climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed the controversy of her appearing in CNN's upcoming coronavirus town hall with other doctors. In addition to Thunberg, CNN's town hall features Dr. Sanjay Gupta, former Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and former acting CDC director Richard Besser.
When the guests were announced for the town hall, titled "Coronavirus - Facts and Fears," many on social media mocked and questioned the network for featuring Thunberg since she is not an expert on virology or the medical field.
Thunberg tweeted on Thursday the reason she is appearing on the town hall is to highlight her work with the United Nations Children's Fund and the help they are providing to children around the world during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.
Thunberg said it was wrong for people to assume she was going to be on an expert panel.
"I am not an expert. I am an activist. The only people claiming that I'm an 'expert' are those who are trying to ridicule me. My message has always been to unite behind the science and listen to the experts," she added.

Thunberg became known around the world for her protests during school days to highlight the action needed on climate change, even becoming TIME Magazine "Person of the Year" in 2019.
Eyebrows were raised when last week's town hall featured former Vice President Al Gore and filmmaker Spike Lee.
