The Wuhan coronavirus pandemic has been a different kind of catastrophe for our nation. Americans are being told to stay home and stay away from others as a means of mitigating the spread of the virus. It's far different from what we're used to. In times of trouble, Americans come together, both physically and emotionally, to support one another.
Although we've passed our peak and the worst seems behind us, the CDC is still encouraging Americans to practice social distancing and staying home as much as possible.
President George W. Bush shared a video on Twitter, encouraging Americans to continue to have the same kind of resolve we've always had.
"It is frustrating that the normal tools of compassion – a hug, a touch – can bring the opposite of the good we intend. In this case, we serve our neighbor from separating from them. We cannot allow physical separation to become emotional separation," he said in his video. "This requires us not only to be compassionate but creative in our outreach. And people across the nation are using the tools of technology and the cause of solidarity."
