As the world grapples with the Wuhan coronavirus, the Chinese Communist Party has continually pushed propaganda to protect the country's image instead of protecting people around the globe. Not only has the regime blamed the United States for starting the virus, but the Chinese government is also actively preventing academics from conducting research on the origins of the Wuhan coronavirus, The Guardian reported.
Fudan University in Shangai and the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan both published announcements calling for research papers into the virus. The posts were then deleted in an attempt to control the country's narrative on the coronavirus. The pages, however, were captured by Google's web cache system.
It's not surprising that these webpages were deleted. On April 3, China's Ministry of Science and Technology made an announcement requiring academics to report their findings to government officials within three days to be reviewed and approved.
The move runs counter to President Xi Jinping's March declaration that one of the country's national priorities is “tracing the origin of the virus." Jinping's statement was even referenced and reinforced by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
According to Kevin Carrico, a senior research fellow of Chinese studies at Monash University, the regime has placed their focus solely on their public image instead of protecting lives and a global economy.
“They are seeking to transform it from a massive disaster to one where the government did everything right and gave the rest of the world time to prepare,” Carrico told The Guardian. “There is a desire to a degree to deny realities that are staring at us in the face … that this is a massive pandemic that originated in a place that the Chinese government really should have cleaned up after SARS."
The reality is that China has lied about the Wuhan coronavirus from the get-go. Taiwan tried alerting the world to what was happening. They went to the World Health Organization. Instead of telling other countries, the WHO continually parrotted Chinese talking points, the biggest lie being that the virus was not transmitted from human-to-human. We now know the virus is extremely contagious and transmitted from person-to-person.
Both China and the WHO need to be held accountable for their responsibility in this pandemic: China for trying to protect their image and keep this under wraps and the WHO for trying to protect the Chinese regime.
