Border Patrol Intercepts Thousands of Fake IDs

Border Patrol agents in Memphis, Tennessee intercepted almost 2,000 counterfeit identification cards and two passport cards that originated in China. The documents were discovered in boxes that held a single tassel.

These documents are sold for $250 to $500 on the black market. They typically go to high school or college students or illegal aliens looking to come to the United States.

“Some may think fake IDs are mostly associated with underaged drinking, but it’s much more than that,” Michael Neipert, CBP Area Port of Memphis Director, said in a statement. “Fraudulent IDs can also be associated with identity theft and terrorist activity. With all the uncertainty currently facing our nation, it is inherent that CBP Memphis Officers/Agriculture specialists remain steadfast in securing the nation’s borders.”

Homeland Security Investigations continues to investigate.
