Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Stops Stabbing Incident Inside a Sam's Club

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced on Sunday that an off-duty Border Patrol agent ended a stabbing incident that took place inside a Sam's Club in Midland, Texas. 

The incident took place around 7:30 pm local time on Saturday. The off-duty agent witnessed the stabbing taking place while inside the store. The agent saw the knifeman assaulting multiple people, including a Sam's Club employee and a small child. After drawing his weapon, the suspect was disarmed and held until local law enforcement officers arrived. The suspect was taken into custody by Midland police. He was later dentified as Jose Gomez. 

"The quick action of our Agent ended this shocking situation and clearly saved multiple lives," Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak said in a statement. "I’m proud of our agents as they are valuable members of our communities. This is another example of how we protect America."

The agency stated that the circumstances leading up to the stabbing incident were unclear.
