Joe Biden Made a Very False Claim About 'Gun Violence' During Last Night's Debate

During Tuesday night's debate in South Carolina, former Vice President Joe Biden falsely claimed 150 million people, half the population in the United States, have been killed by "gun violence" since 2007.

First, this claim is obviously false based on sheer population numbers. Second, let's take a look at the real statistics on this issue.

According to the most recent data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 23,854 Americans committed suicide with a firearm and 14,542 were victims of homicide with a firearm in 2017. The deaths per 100,000 population for suicide was 7.3 and for homicide, 4.5.

Biden's claim of 150 million wasn't just wrong, it isn't anywhere close to reality.
