Longtime conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh announced on his show on Monday he has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.
Limbaugh said he noticed something was wrong during his birthday weekend in January.
"And I wish I didn't have to tell you this and I thought about not telling anybody. I thought about trying do this without anybody knowing because I don't like making things about me. But there are going to be days when I'm not going to be be here because I'm undergoing treatment or I'm reacting to treatment," he said.
Limbaugh said his absences would not go unnoticed and it was better to be up front with what was happening than trying to cover it up.

"And it's not that I want to fool anybody, it's just that I don't want to burden anybody with it and I haven't wanted to," he added. "But it is what it is."

Rush said he plans on making it to the studio to record his show as much as possible.
There has been an outpouring of support to Limbaugh on social media after he made his announcement.
