In New Interview, President Trump Reveals Additional Information About Soleimani's Planned Attacks

In an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham, which will air Friday night, President Donald Trump revealed Iranian terrorist Qassem Soleimani was planning "large scale" attacks against multiple U.S. Embassies.

"Don't the American people have the right to know what specifically was targeted without revealing methods and sources?" Ingraham asked.

"Well I don't think so but we will tell you that it was probably going to be in Baghdad," Trump said. "I can reveal that I believe it would have likely have been four embassies."

On New Year's eve, Soleimani directed an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. The siege, carried out by Iranian backed militia members, ended quickly when President Trump deployed U.S. Marines to handle the situation. No U.S. personnel were hurt.

Earlier today at the White House, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo briefed reporters and again justified the killing of Soleimani due to imminent attacks.

"It was very clear Qassem Soleimani was planning broad attacks against Americans," he said. "There was an imminent attack, there was active plotting."

The Treasury Department issued a number of new sanctions on members of the Iranian regime Friday, in addition to a host of industries that provide billions of dollars each year.

"The President has been very clear, we will continue to apply economic sanctions until Iran stops its terrorist activities and commits to never having a nuclear weapon," Secretary Steve Mnuchin said.

“Today, I am holding the Iranian regime responsible for attacks against United States personnel and interests by denying it substantial revenue that may be used to fund and support its nuclear program, missile development, terrorism and terrorist proxy networks, and malign regional influence," President Trump said about the sanctions.
