We've know all along about the Democrats' desires to impeach President Donald Trump. We knew they didn't like him or his vision for America. They were threatened by him before he was even elected, let alone sworn into office. But Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) takes the cake for the most unhinged moment of the night. During the House Judiciary Committee's markup hearing on the Articles of Impeachment against President Trump on Wednesday night, Demings decided to talk about the fact that she's a descendent of slaves, as if that has anything to do with the topic at hand.
"I come before you tonight as an African American female. I come before you tonight as a descendant of slaves, slaves who knew they would not make it but dreamed and prayed one day that I would make it," Demings said during the hearing. "I come before you tonight proclaiming that, in spite of America’s complicated history, my faith is in the Constitution. And I say that today with perfect peace."

Slavery was something that, sadly, took place in our nation. It's a deep part of who we are as Americans. What slaves had to endure is nothing shy of horrific and tragic. No amount of sympathy or empathy can change that fact. But what the hell does being the descendent of slaves have to do with impeaching a sitting president? What does America's past history of slavery have to do with ousting a president for allegedly abusing his power and obstructing justice? Absolutely. Nothing.
Are people supposed to suddenly applaud Demings because she has the power to vote to remove the man in the Oval Office? Or are we having a history lesson in the middle of an impeachment hearing? Maybe some of us missed whatever memo she obtained.
