Joy Reid Apologizes After Her Show Mixes Up White Supremacist Richard Spencer with Former Navy Secretary

MSNBC was forced to issue a correction and an apology Sunday morning after a graphic was aired that mixed up former Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer with white supremacist Richard Spencer. 

While host Joy Anne Reid was discussing the events surrounding Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher and President Trump's interventions into the Department of the Navy's attempts to issue further punishments following his trial on "AM Joy," Reid read an op-ed penned by Secretary Spencer.

In the graphic showing the op-ed, the picture in the background showed the Richard Spencer who infamously took part in the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia instead of the now-former Secretary.

Videos and photos of the mistake circulated on social media, with many users left in disbelief over the significant mistake.  

Shortly following the Spencer segment, Reid issued an on-air apology, "I want to make a quick correction, this is a pretty big correction. Earlier in the segment as we were talking about former Navy Secretary Richard Spencer, we mistakenly showed the wrong image of white supremacist Richard Spencer. Very, deeply sorry for that mistake."
