Democrats Run Into A Roadblock In Trump Tax Return Push: The Supreme Court

The Democrats desperately want to know what’s in Donald Trump’s tax returns. They think there’s something illegal in there. It’s part of their impeachment push. The trifecta for this witch hunt centers on Russian collusion, quid pro quo concerning military aid to Ukraine, and personal tax returns. The first one was shot to death like Sonny Corleone on the Long Island parkway. It was a myth. The second allegation—Trump-Ukraine—is even shoddier than the collusion hoax, with a lot of these so-called witnesses being career bureaucrats who didn’t like Trump’s policy, so he fired them. That’s perfectly fine. All of these people who are peddled by the liberal media as giving legitimacy to the impeachment argument serve at the pleasure of the president are pretty much just angry that they got pushed aside. It’s therapy. And therapy is boring to watch.

With taxes, the lower courts ruled that the accounting firm Trump used to file his taxes must turn over those documents. Democrats want at least five years’ worth of taxes, plus any documents relating to his businesses. Trump didn’t release his returns in 2016, citing an IRS audit. Now, the Supreme Court has laid down a roadblock for House Democrats and their impeachment fantasy (via CNBC):

The Supreme Court on Monday temporarily blocked a ruling that requires President Donald Trump’s longtime accounting firm to turn over his tax returns to Congress.

The temporary stay order signed by Chief Justice John Roberts gives the Democratic-controlled House Committee on Oversight and Reform until Thursday to respond. The document did not note any public votes or dissents.

The move was expected and does not provide new information about how the justices may ultimately vote on the matter. It generally requires five votes to grant a stay, though in some cases one justice may do so pending review by the full court.

Earlier in the day, attorneys for House Democrats said in a letter that they would not oppose a temporary delay in enforcing the subpoena to allow the court time to consider arguments from both sides. The committee said in the letter that it would provide its response on Friday.

Again, this is a fishing expedition. There’s no legitimate allegation of illegality; Democrats just don’t like Trump. Yes, of course, the White House should have (and has) fought this tooth and nail. It’s all part of the broad and aggressive campaign to get the president. Period.
