The crowd at Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders's rally broke out into a "Lock him up" chant as guest speaker Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spoke out against President Trump on Sunday.
"Because it is the only way we are going to defeat Donald Trump. And place his cruel ideology in the dustbin of his tree where it belongs," Omar said to an applause.
"Today we are going to send a powerful message with this president. Your efforts to cuddle white supremacy, to band Muslims from entering the United States, to call people at neo-Nazi rallies, 'very fine people' will fail. Just as a matter of fact, none of us are going back. We’re here to stay," she said.
The crowd chanted their desire to have Trump be put in jail throughout Omar's speech, where she did not tell them to stop.
The "Lock her up" chant, referring to former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, became a staple during Trump's 2016 campaign rallies. Even after Trump won, crowds often broke out in the chant when he mentioned Clinton.
"Bernie knows what every Minnesotan knows: the root of every injustice is an imbalance of power, whether through gender, association, corruption, wealth, or race," Omar also said at the rally.
Sanders gained the support of Omar, and fellow freshmen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), also known as "The Squad." The last member of "The Squad," Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), has not endorsed Vermont's Independent senator.
