Shortly before skipping town for a two week recess, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, House Foreign Affairs Chairman and House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings issued a subpoena to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. They want documents related to Ukraine and their demands are based on a bogus, second hand "whistleblower" complaint released yesterday.
"Pursuant to the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry, we are herby transmitting a subpoena that compels you to produce the documents set forth in the accompanying schedule by October 4, 2019," a letter sent Friday states. "This subpoena is being issued by the Committee on Foreign Affairs after consolation with the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Oversight and Reform. The subpoenaed documents shall be part of the impeachment inquiry and shared among the Committees. Your failure or refusal to comply with the subpoena shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House's impeachment inquiry."
"The Committees are investigating the extent to which President Trump jeopardized national security by pressing Ukraine to interfere with our 2020 election by withholding security assistance provided by Congress to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression," the letter continues.
Secretary Pompeo just wrapped up the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, where he held a forum on religious freedom, met with allies about how to combat Iran and took on China for holding millions of innocent people in China. Next week he will travel to Europe to continue the Trump administration's religious freedom campaign.
