Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fractured a shoulder after tripping Sunday morning according to a statement from his Communications Director David Popp.
“This morning, Leader McConnell tripped at home on his outside patio and suffered a fractured shoulder. He has been treated, released, and is working from home in Louisville,” the statement explains.
“This afternoon he contacted Senators Cornyn and Portman to express his deepest sympathies for the people of El Paso and Dayton and discuss the senseless tragedies of this weekend.”
“The Leader will continue to work from home,” the statement notes.

According to Roll Call, McConnell “has long faced movement challenges, particularly with stairs, dating back to his childhood battle to overcome polio.”

Some Twitter users picked up on the news, writing “thoughts and prayers” in an apparently facetious jab.
Thoughts and prayers for @senatemajldr, but now is not the time to do anything about his injuries or remove whatever tripped him. https://t.co/1pyEZ6RO7p

In the wake of the recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio the left has been calling for McConnell to convene the Senate in order to pass legislation.
Mitch McConnell should bring the Senate back into session immediately to pass HR 8, the gun safety bill that has already passed the House. That's a first step to addressing our serious gun violence epidemic.

The House has already passed some of these and will pass more. But that’s not enough. We need the Senate and the White House to Act!

Two things you can do:
1. Speak up now. Hello, Moscow Mitch!
2. Get every every every body out to vote 11/3/2020.
It does not have to be this way. The House has passed common sense legislation for universal background checks.

We must demand Mitch McConnell take this up in the Senate now. https://t.co/uxX5rNAAEX
My message at today’s #2019townhall in Beaverton after the latest gun rampages? America is sick of meaningless words — the time is now for meaningful action. If Mitch McConnell calls the Senate in to take up commonsense gun legislation, I’ll be on the 1st plane back from PDX. pic.twitter.com/VlucTW3h7S

Sen. McConnell should call the Senate back into session now. We should vote on universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons and large magazines, and anti-gun trafficking measures. These three things will help keep our communities safer, and we can’t afford to wait.
