Watch Out, Dems: Kamala's Cashin' In On Her Debate Performance

Sen. Kamala Harris (CA) had her largest fundraising day in the 24 hours after the Democratic debate. Her campaign racked in $2 million, according to POLITICO

The report shows that 63,277 people donated to her campaign, 58 percent of whom were first-time donors. The average donation amount was $30. Harris' previous record fundraising day was shortly after she launched her campaign. At that time, she raised $1.5 million.

Harris' team shared the news on Twitter:

Lily Adams, Harris' communications director, said the campaign now has momentum.

"We have momentum," Adams told CNN. "After her dominant debate performance, where she proved she is the candidate best suited to prosecute the case against four more years of Donald Trump, supporters across this country are fueling our campaign because they saw her empathy, her passion, and her direct focus on the issues that keep people up at night."

According to Harris' campaign, they also quadrupled their donations in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

By comparison, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro had almost 16,000 new donors and Sen. Cory Booker (NJ) had almost 4,000 new donors.

Sunday marks the end of the second quarter. Candidates and their campaigns are pushing hard to finish strong. After all, donations are one way of dwindling down the crowded field of 20 Democrats.

When first quarter fundraising reports were released, Harris came in second, with $12 million, in comparison to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders who raised $18.2 million, CNN reported.

People have praised Harris for her debate performance and, specifically, her calling out former Vice President Joe Biden for saying he successfully worked with two senators who were segregationists.

Pollster Frank Luntz said Harris' performance, specifically on the issue of race, may have pulled voters away from Biden and to her camp, CNBC reported.

“South Carolina is 40% African American, the Democratic primary. She has now staked a clear claim to that vote. A number of them have been supporting Biden up to this point," Luntz said.
