While on the Senate floor this morning, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made his opinions on the Mueller report known.
"It's now been more than six weeks since Special Counsel Bob Muller, the former FBI Director, concluded his investigation into Russia's interference in our 2016 election and delivered his findings to the Justice Department," McConnell said. "It's been two weeks since Attorney General William Barr made the 450 page report public. This investigation went on for two years. It's finally over."
"Many Americans were waiting to see how their elected officials would respond. With an exhaustive investigation been complete, would the country finally unified and confront the real challenges before us?" he asked. "Would we finally be able to move on from partisan paralysis and breathless conspiracy theorizing? Or would we remain consumed by unhinged partisanship and continue dividing ourselves to the point that Putin and his agents need only stand on the sidelines and watch us as their job is actually done for them?"
"Regrettably, the answer is pretty obvious."
According to McConnell, liberals have clung to the Russia investigation because they saw it as their "last hope" to get rid of President Donald Trump. Mueller was going to deliver what they thought was the political bomb that would somehow reverse the 2016 elections.

During the 2018 midterm elections, the government was prepared for foreign interference. According to McConnell, the Department of Homeland Security worked with all 50 states and more than 1,400 local jurisdictions to ramp up cyber security. Private social media companies monitored their social networks as well.
"Seriousness is not what we have seen from the Democratic Party in recent days. Not serious. What we've seen is a meltdown. An absolute meltdown," McConnell said. "An inability to accept the bottom line conclusion on Russian interference from the Special Counsel's report, which said the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activity. That's the conclusion."
"Two years of exhaustive investigation and nothing to establish a fanciful conspiracy that Democratic politicians and TV talking heads treated like a foregone conclusion," he said. "They told everyone there had been a conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign, yet on this central question, the Special Counsel's findings is clear: Case. Closed."
You heard it, Democrats. You got your investigation, carried out by the guy of your choosing – Robert Mueller – and he found nothing. You should be happy that President Trump's campaign did not collude with Russia. Stop focusing on the hatred you have for him and start focusing on how to keep foreign interferences in our elections. That should be your focus, not trying to rewrite history simply because you're unhappy with how the elections turned out.
