Pompeo Says It's 'Ludicrous' to Think Trump Is a Threat to National Security Following NYT Report

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CBS’s “Face the Nation” in an interview scheduled to air Sunday that the idea that President Trump was a national security threat was “ludicrous.”

A recent New York Times report had accounts from former law enforcement officials that after Trump's firing of former FBI director James Comey, FBI agents investigated whether the president “had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests."

Asked to comment on the report, Pompeo dismissed such an idea.

"I'm not going to comment on New York Times stories, but I'll certainly say this: the- the notion that President Trump is a threat to American national security is absolutely ludicrous," he told CBS's Margaret Brennan.

"The idea that's contained in the New York Times story that President Trump was a threat to American national security is silly on its face and not worthy of a response," he added.

President Trump responded to the New York Times report on Twitter Saturday morning and claimed that “everybody” wanted Comey fired.
