Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CBS’s “Face the Nation” in an interview scheduled to air Sunday that the idea that President Trump was a national security threat was “ludicrous.”
A recent New York Times report had accounts from former law enforcement officials that after Trump's firing of former FBI director James Comey, FBI agents investigated whether the president “had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests."
Asked to comment on the report, Pompeo dismissed such an idea.
"I'm not going to comment on New York Times stories, but I'll certainly say this: the- the notion that President Trump is a threat to American national security is absolutely ludicrous," he told CBS's Margaret Brennan.
Idea that @realDonaldTrump "was a threat to American national security is silly on its face and not worthy of a response."@margbrennan asked @SecPompeo about a @nytimes report that the FBI probed whether the president was secretly working for Russia https://t.co/VMYKiD6yI1 pic.twitter.com/1FAR5cwkoW

President Trump responded to the New York Times report on Twitter Saturday morning and claimed that “everybody” wanted Comey fired.
Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, almost all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin’ James Comey, a total sleaze!

...Funny thing about James Comey. Everybody wanted him fired, Republican and Democrat alike. After the rigged & botched Crooked Hillary investigation, where she was interviewed on July 4th Weekend, not recorded or sworn in, and where she said she didn’t know anything (a lie),....
