Cuomo Argues That 'Biden Has the Best Case' of the 2020 Presidential Contenders

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) weighed in on the field of those considering a 2020 bid for president Wednesday. In a radio interview with WAMC he argued that his longtime friend, former Vice President Joe Biden, had “the best case.”

“I think it sounds like a lot of people are running,” he said in response to a question about Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) candidacy. “The main issue for the Democrats is not going to be the articulation of the negative, it is going to be the articulation of the positive, and credibility.”

Cuomo then made the case for Biden, arguing that he had the “secret ingredient” needed in the Democratic nominee.

“Of all the names that are out there, I think Joe Biden has the best case. I think Joe Biden has the best case because he brings the most of the secret ingredient you need to win for a Democrat, which is credibility," he said.

“You don’t hire an airline pilot who hasn’t flown a plane. Where is the credibility in your argument? Joe Biden can say ‘I was there. I was not the president, but I was the second seat,'" he emphasized.

Biden is weighing a presidential run. He commented in December that he believes he is the “most qualified person” to be president and said he would announce his decision in the next couple of months.

Biden is leading many opinion polls on potential Democratic nominees. A recent USA Today poll found that 53 percent of those surveyed were excited about a Biden run putting him just behind the 59 percent of voters that were excited about “someone entirely new” running.
