The Democrats Unveil Their First Bill, Which Is Clearly Aimed at Trump

House Democrats, ahead of their takeover in January, have introduced their inaugural bill of the 116th Congress. H.R. 1 would establish a Supreme Court code of ethics, create a national voter registration and expand early voting, require political groups to disclose donors and prevent members of Congress from serving on corporate boards. Last but not least, the bill would require presidents to release their tax returns.

Democrats already signaled that they were planning to pressure President Trump to release his tax returns on election night earlier this month.  Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA), the ranking member on the House Ways and Means Committee, told MSNBC's Ari Melber that they "do intend" to make the request if the retake the House.

Trump acted pretty nonchalant about the whole thing.

"I don’t care," he said. "They can do whatever they want and I can do whatever I want."

Other Democratic agenda items include making sure special counsel Robert Mueller is able to complete his Russia investigation.

"The Congress must immediately pass legislation to preserve the Special Counsel investigation, which is identical to bipartisan legislation passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee," Pelosi told her colleagues.

Pelosi has also promised to make infrastructure and health care priorities. At least that's she told Rep. Brian Higgins (D-NY) when he was still waffling on whether he'd vote for her for speaker.

With more and more "Never Pelosi" Democrats jumping ship, she seems on course to get the speaker's gavel again.
