Palm Beach County voting machines overheated Tuesday night, forcing the recount of 175,000 early votes. Palm Beach Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher regretted the mishap.
“We’re disappointed by the mechanical problems that are going to cause a further delay in the recount,” Bucher told reporters. “It became evident through the vigorous pace of counting that the machines used for the recount were starting to get stressed.”
The only mechanics who could fix the "decade-old machines" had to be flown in from elsewhere.
Sen. Bill Nelson (D), who is currently trailing Gov. Rick Scott (R), has sued for a recount extension. But the deadline still stands at Thursday at 3 p.m.
Scott adviser Gail Gitcho said on Fox News Wednesday that the lawsuits coming out of the Nelson campaign "are to make sure Florida law is not followed."
Broward County has also failed to provide vote totals. Last week, a full two days after the election, Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes still had no answer as to how many outstanding votes were left.
Gitcho noted how "unfortunate" it is that Florida is getting the bad rap for these two "problem counties."
