White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Thursday afternoon President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will pledge $1 million of personal funds toward Hurricane Harvey relief.
"The President is pledging a million dollars of personal money to the fund...to help the people of Texas and Louisiana," Sanders said, adding the President is taking suggestions about where specifically the money should be donated.
When asked if the money will come from President Trump personally or from the Trump Foundation, Sanders said she wasn't clear on the legal aspects but that the donation would be made appropriately.
The President and First Lady will travel to Texas and Louisiana this weekend to assess damage left by Hurricane Harvey. Trump visited Corpus Christi and Austin earlier this week, but avoided the most devastated areas of Houston in order to avoid pulling law enforcement away from ongoing rescue efforts.
Vice President Mike Pence is in Texas today visiting damaged areas, helping with clean up efforts and thanking first responders.
