Scalise "Improving," Still Critical

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) is still in critical condition following Wednesday morning's shooting at a baseball field in Alexandria, VA., but is "improving." A press release issued by MedStar Washington Hospital Center said that Scalise had undergone an additional surgery and would be in the hospital for "some time." The hospital also said that they would continue to provide updates on Scalise's condition, per the request of his family.

Earlier today, Congressman Steve Scalise underwent a second surgery related to his internal injuries and a broken bone in his leg. He remains in critical condition, but has improved in the last 24 hours. The Congressman will require additional operations, and will be in the hospital for some time. At the request of the family, we will continue to provide periodic updates.

Scalise arrived at the hospital in stable condition, but was downgraded to critical following surgery. He suffered injuries to his internal organs, pelvis, and leg after being shot in the left hip. The assailant, James T. Hodgkinson, was shot dead at the field by a Capitol Police officer.
