Koch Network Promises to Defend Republicans Who Vote Against Healthcare Bill

While President Trump warned Republicans to vote for the GOP’s healthcare bill or lose their seat, the Koch brothers’ network promises to defend those who oppose it.

Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Partners are joining forces to create a “seven-figure” fund to help lawmakers weather the political fallout of voting against the legislation.

“Republicans have been promising to fully repeal Obamacare since it became law. This bill doesn’t do that," said James Davis, executive vice president of Freedom Partners, reports Politico. "We will stand with lawmakers who keep their promise and oppose this legislation — and work toward a solution that reduces costs and provides Americans with the relief they need and deserve.”

Through a digital ad campaign, AFP has already begun thanking Republican House members who have said they will oppose the bill.

"In seven years, we have never wavered in our commitment to a full repeal of this disastrous law," AFP president Tim Phillips said in a statement. "We want to make certain that lawmakers understand the policy consequences of voting for a law that keeps Obamacare intact. We have a history of following up and holding politicians accountable, but we will also be there to support and thank the champions who stand strong and keep their promise."

The reserve fund, which will spend money on direct mail, paid media, and grassroots canvassing will give breathing room to House Freedom Caucus members who want to vote against the healthcare bill.
