Omar Abdel-Rahman, known as the "Blind Sheik", died in a federal prison early Saturday morning of natural causes. He was 78.

Abdel-Rahman was arrested in June of 1993 and was convicted of seditious conspiracy in October of 1995 for planning a series of bombing attacks throughout New York City. He was sentenced to life in prison and served his sentence at FMC Butner in North Carolina.
