Customers all across the country on Thursday found some of their favorite restaurants shuttered when they went out for their lunch breaks. That's because restaurants owners in major cities participated in the "A Day Without Immigrants" strike to protest President Trump's executive order on immigration.
Washington, D.C. foodies were especially affected. Owners José Andrés and Andy Shallal closed their popular restaurants Busboys and Poets, Jaleo, Oyamel and Zaytinya and allowed their 600 employees to take a vacation day. Instead of going to work, they took part in a march to the White House.

The strike eventually made its way to Virginia and got personal.

The strike did not only affect the food industry, however. Museums hid art that had been created by immigrants and students stayed home from their elementary schools to stand in solidarity with those affected by executive order.
As far as I can tell, employees will be back to work tomorrow.
