President Trump's nominee for treasury secretary, Steve Mnuchin, received the 51 Senate votes he needed for confirmation just shy of 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The final tally was 53-47.
In a statement shortly after the vote, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady said Mnuchin's resume proves he will be an appealing partner for tax reform.
Mnuchin, a hedge fund manager, worked for Goldman Sachs for 17 years and served as finance director for Trump's campaign. The vote was relatively quiet, however, compared to the confirmation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. The Democrats' next big target is expected to be Trump's labor secretary nominee Andrew Puzder.
