Sen. Shaheen: Everyone I've Talked To Believes We Should Hold Vote on Gorsuch

Unlike some of her colleagues who are planning to filibuster President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) argued he deserves a "fair hearing." Everyone she's talked to agrees, she said on the Senate floor on Tuesday.

“Unlike the Republican majority, I haven’t heard any Democrats saying we don’t think that Judge Gorsuch should get a hearing or that he should get an up-or-down vote," Shaheen said. "Everybody I’ve talked to agrees he should get a hearing and an up-or-down vote.”

Shaheen is now the ninth Democrat to approve of a vote on Gorsuch. These lawmakers said they are choosing to take the high road because they don't want to follow Republicans' lead when they blocked President Obama's nominee, Merrick Garland.

Some Democrats also find no red flags on Gorsuch's resume. Quite the opposite. Guy wrote that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), for instance, was impressed with Gorsuch after their meeting on Capitol Hill this week.

"He’s a very caring person and he’s obviously legally very smart...I think we are dealing with someone who is impressive,” she said.

As for those Democrats who are planning to upend Gorsuch's nomination at all costs, some of those stubborn lawmakers may have a hard time explaining why they voted to approve him to serve on an appeals court in 2006.
