Former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina met with President-elect Donald Trump Monday at Trump Tower in New York City to discuss her consideration for director of national intelligence.
After the meeting, Fiorina met with reporters to quickly debrief on what was discussed.
"[We] spent a fair amount of time talking about China, as probably our most important adversary and a rising adversary. We talked about hacking, whether it's Chinese hacking or purported Russian hacking. We talked about the opportunity the president-elect has to literally reset things. To reset the trajectory of this economy, to reset the role of government, to reset America's role in the world and how we're perceived int he world. I think it's why he's getting such fantastic people in his administration," Fiorina said. "The high quality of people that he's named already says so much about his executive abilities but it also says that people recognize the opportunity the president-elect has to make a huge impact on people's lives in this country and on events around the world."
Confronting China on economic issues was a pillar of Trump's message on the campaign trail. His recent decision to take a phone call from Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, the first time a phone call has been accepted by a U.S. president or president-elect since 1979, and his discussions about the country in ongoing transition meetings, show he is interested in keeping his campaign promises to put China on notice.
