Gun dealers with a federal firearms license must perform a background check on all gun purchases. Everyone applying for a concealed carry permit must undergo a background check as well after completing the training and safety prerequisites. In Ohio, those who have undergone a background check for a carry permit will no longer be subjected to additional ones performed for future gun purchases, according to The Associated Press:
Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the change Wednesday [May 25, 2016] , saying the U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agreed to the exemption to eliminate some of the red tape in gun purchases.People who have already passed all the background checks for a concealed carry permit after March 23, 2015, will no longer be subjected to the background-check process every time they buy a gun.
In 2015, Ohio decided to recognize all carry permit holders from any other state, regardless if that state has a reciprocity agreement with Ohio. Concerning Second Amendment rights, Ohio is getting better.
