Hillary Clinton suffered her 20th loss to democratic socialist Bernie Sanders Tuesday night, underscoring her embarrassing inability to secure her party's nomination. She lost every single county. Even more embarrassing is the fact that back in the 2008 primary, Clinton won the state over Barack Obama with 66 percent of the vote.
Judging by exit polling from Tuesday, the news just gets worse. Over 40 percent of West Virginians dislike Clinton so much that they would rather vote for her bombastic Republican opponent in the general election.
In November, Donald Trump would be the choice of 44 percent of West Virginia Democratic primary voters who supported Bernie Sanders Tuesday, CBS News early exit polling found.
These findings underscore the deep hostilities Clinton faces in coal country. She has tried to walk back her promise earlier this year "to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business," but that hasn’t stopped West Virginians from giving her the finger. Exit polls found that two-thirds of those who work in the state’s coal industry support Sanders.
Although he faces an uphill battle thanks to the skewed delegate math, the Vermont senator has indicated he has no plans to bow out of the race.
