World Down Syndrome Day

Today, March 21, marks World Down Syndrome Day. The date was chosen because March 21 written out numerically is 3/21, and Down syndrome is a condition caused when a person has three copies of the 21st chromosome.

Here are some ways people living with Down syndrome, and the people who love them, chose to celebrate:

Time to celebrate! Tomorrow is World Down Syndrome Day! A very special day for our family. We are so proud of our little Welles and all that he is. To celebrate, our friends over at @oilostudio to make a real splash and put together a "big boy" nursery for him. Some amazing companies came together to complete their design! Check out all the details on the blog (link in profile). . . . Now, #celebratorygibeaway !! Guys, I am so touched at how many businesses wanted to advocate, celebrate and recognize individuals with Down syndrome this week. A ton of amazing brands came together to do a HUGE giveaway in celebration of Welles and his buddies. Every company I spoke with was super enthusiastic about this which meant the world to me (Enter trough the link in my profile!). Please celebrate with us and #shouttheirworth !! #worlddownsyndromedaygiveaway #downsyndrome #nothingdownaboutit ??: @brittandersonphoto

When Ruby was first born, I didn't really know anything about Down syndrome, nor had I been around very many people with disabilities. That makes me sad, really, because now that I have Ruby, I feel like I am "In the Know"...she opens my eyes and my heart to a whole new level of love, patience, acceptance and beauty. I am so grateful for my life, my girls, the support we have from the community. Without the support of you guys...we wouldn't be able to do what we do...SO THANK YOU!!! From the bottom of my heart...THANK YOU!! ???????? So far, with the 3/21 Pledge, we have raised over $77,000 toward our scholarship fund and raising awareness to just how cool, capable and worthy people like my daughter are. You guys have Pledged and shared and are creating a new future for people like my Ruby. A new future with more excited recipients, who will feel the love and accepting arms of the community when they get that bright colored envelope in the mail that says "You get a scholarship! We believe in you!!" ???????? Thank you friends! We are still working toward our goal...so if you haven't yet, please consider taking the Pledge and donating just $21. If you have...THANK YOU! Please keep sharing! You guys rock my world! Let's keep BELIEVING!!! WOO HOO! ?? by the always amazing @amymelsa when Doobs was a wee one!!??????
