Video: Rick Santorum Strongly Hints He's Running For President

Of course, he prefaced his announcement with some hedging. But make no mistake: He’s running.

"May 27th in Butler, Pennsylvania is where we're going to make our decision..."

With all due respect to the Senator, this Cinderella story will not have a fairy tale ending. First of all, with Walker, Cruz, Carson and now Huckabee all vying for the nod, there’s simply no wiggle room for him to be a serious contender. Social conservatives will inevitably split between five or six different candidates, as will so-called blue-collar conservatives whom Santorum obviously hopes to court. How, then, is he going to build a winning coalition?

Meanwhile, his polling numbers are so low his name isn't even appearing on some surveys anymore. So while it may be inside-the-beltway conventional wisdom to say this, I’m going to say it anyway: His chances of winning the nomination are, to put it charitably, zero percent. So if he’s running to raise his profile or sell books, perhaps he should reconsider.

Sometimes running for president isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
