What happens when the word begins to spread that the Obama administration is lax about enforcing our country’s immigration laws and amnesty in the near future seems to be an all but certain reality? Well, this:
Faced with 60,000 unaccompanied children trying to cross the border illegally this year, President Obama on Monday declared it an “urgent humanitarian situation” and named a federal coordinator to make sure the children are cared for — but offered no new ideas for how to keep them from trying to enter.
These “unaccompanied alien children” are the latest hiccup for an administration that has asserted the border is secure, even as it struggles to balance enforcement with humanitarian concerns.
The White House signaled that, at least for now, it sees the flow of children — which it predicts will more than double in 2015 — as an issue to be managed rather than a problem to be fought.
“We are only talking about protecting these kids,” White House domestic policy adviser Cecilia Munoz told reporters who asked whether there were any bigger plans in the works to try to stem the flow. “These are children, and in many cases they are young children. They have just traveled from Central America to the U.S. alone.” […]
Ms. Munoz said they’ve seen a tremendous spike in just the last month, with more girls and more children younger than 13.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said in a statement that it’s the Obama administration’s immigration policies that have encouraged more people to come to the U.S., many of whom are from Central America.
And what’s worse, we're pretty much welcoming them with open arms. The DC reports:
Officials are not treating the expected influx of 60,000 youths this year — and perhaps 130,000 in 2015 — as a wave of illegal immigrants that should be returned home.
Instead, officials are spending taxpayer funds, and converting parts of at least two military facilities, to cater to the illegals and to transport them to their illegal-immigrant parents elsewhere in the United States.
“In general, significant numbers do have family members in the United States” who can pick up their kids from the federal facilities, said Cecilia Munoz, President Barack Obama’s top domestic adviser. […]
White House officials have asked Congress to approve $1.4 billion to care for the youth and to help them get to their destinations in the United States. […]
“Our primary mission is to ensure the [youth] are properly cared for,” said Munoz, who formerly headed an ethnic advocacy group for Latinos, the National Council of La Raza.
Many of the youth come from countries that do not have a border with the United States, so “the law doesn’t provide for expedited removal of these kids,” she said.
“The recent surge of children and teenagers from Central America showing up at our Southern border is an Administration-made disaster,” Goodlatte said in the statement—and it’s only going to get worse.
