Nope, not an April Fools joke; this story broke yesterday. Whether this couple's experience was a bizarre isolated incident or part of a larger scheme remains to be seen. But as we await the verdict on that question, yes, this certainly looks sketchy. Via San Diego's ABC-10 affiliate:
A local couple called 10News concerned after they received an envelope from the state's Obamacare website, Covered California. Inside was a letter discussing voter registration and a registration card pre-marked with an "x" in the box next to Democratic Party. The couple – who did not want their identity revealed – received the letter and voter registration card from their health insurance provider Covered California, the state-run agency that implements President Obama's Affordable Care Act. They have lived in La Mesa for years and they have always been registered to vote Republican. Now, they are perplexed as to how the voter registration card pre-marked Democrat ended up in their mailbox. “I'm an old guy and I never would have noticed it, except I have an accountant that notices every dot and dash on a piece of paper as a wife,” said the man who received the mailer.
Turns out that Covered California -- which has accounted for roughly one-fifth of all Obamacare enrollments -- began sending out voter registration cards to consumers in response to a lawsuit threat from a "voting rights group." One imagines that this is the same sort of "voting rights" organization that opposes voter ID laws to prevent voter fraud. The Left swears up and down that voter fraud doesn't exist, rendering any attempt to minimize the phenomenon tantamount to "voter suppression." In addition to the Florida news report we highlighted a few weeks ago, the issue of voter fraud reared its head recently in California. How so? A Democratic State Senator was convicted on multiple felony counts, including...voter fraud:
The conviction on all eight felony counts doesn’t immediately bar Wright from the Senate, though his colleagues could decide to remove the long-serving Democrat before he is sentenced. Defense attorney Winston Kevin McKesson said he would file an appeal. Prosecutors said Wright committed fraud when he made it appear that he had moved into an Inglewood property he owned in order to run in 2008 to represent the 25th Senate District. They said Wright actually lived outside the district. Wright was charged with counts including perjury, false declaration of candidacy and fraudulent voting. He could face a maximum of eight years and four months in prison when he is sentenced on March 12.

He voted illegally in five elections. And in case you were curious, he and two fellow Democrats have just been suspended -- with pay (!) -- from the legislature. Wright is a convicted felon. The other two have been charged with a host of felonies, including, um, presiding over and profiting from an illegal weapons trafficking ring. Surreal:
A criminal complaint released Wednesday says the San Francisco Democrat wanted donations in return for connecting an Italian gangster from New Jersey with an international arms dealer. The gangster was an undercover federal agent....The agent told Yee he wanted up to $2.5-million worth of weapons. After they arrived in Newark, some would be sent to North Africa or Siciliy, the agent said. Yee asked if he wanted automatic or semiautomatic guns, according to the complaint...Conversations continued between Yee and the agent, the complaint says. At one point, Yee allegedly promised to procure weapons equivalent to the M-16 rifle used by U.S. soldiers. The agent also expressed interest in obtaining shoulder-fired rocket launchers.
Before you even ask -- why yes, Sen. Yee is a huge gun control proponent. Maybe he was just trying to get rid of the competition:
