Angela Merkel, Germany's first female chancellor, is on track to win such an overwhelming victory that her center-right Christian Democratic party may well be able to win without a coalition partner -- only the second time this has happened since World War II, and the first time since 1957.
Note that this victory came despite widespread projections of a dead heat in the run up to the election.
