New Fox News Poll: Obama Approval in the Tank With Independents

Recovery Summer 5.0 isn't going so well for President Obama. A new Fox News poll shows just 25 percent of independent voters approve of the job Obama is doing. Overall, Obama's approval among voters is just 46 percent.

Most voters are unhappy with the way things are going in the country, and over half say they don’t see signs the economy has turned the corner, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday. Those are two of the reasons why President Obama’s job approval remains below 50 percent -- and hits a new low among independents.

Just 25 percent of independents approve of the job the president is doing, down from 31 percent last month.

Overall, 46 percent of voters approve of Obama’s job performance, while 47 percent disapprove.
The bad economy seems to be just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to why Obama has lost support among independents. The latest nose dive seems to be a result of the IRS targeting of conservatives, something independents think the White House was well aware of and something Obama hasn't handled well according to Gallup.

Obama is in Jacksonville today to give another speech about the economy. Yesterday at Knox College in Illinois, Obama blamed years of stagnant economic growth on "phony scandals" and "distractions."

"With an endless parade of distractions, political posturing and phony scandals, Washington has taken its eye off the ball.  And I am here to say this needs to stop.  Short-term thinking and stale debates are not what this moment requires.  Our focus must be on the basic economic issues that the matter most to you – the people we represent," Obama said.
