Friday Fun: House Democrat Fumbles Apology Over "M-Word"

Mediaite flags this excruciating stretch of unintentional hilarity from Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), who took to the House floor yesterday to tell the world how profoundly sorry he was for using the word "midget" in a previous debate:

Honest question for those familiar with the little person community: Does the "m-word" really rise to the level of the n-word on the offensiveness scale?  In any case, Johnson earns extra comedy points for inadvertently repeating the word during the self-condemnation, and for settling on a -- cough -- much less offensive term during his rambling address: "Abnormally small people."  Bravo, man.  If this guy looks or sounds familiar, it might be because he starred in a viral internet clip a few years back.  Here's our favorite sitting (and re-elected!) member of the US House of Representatives fretting about whether stationing more US troops in Guam might cause the island to "tip over and capsize:"

"We don't anticipate that" might be the greatest answer ever supplied while in the course of Congressional testimony.  If you're wondering how this gentleman has managed to retain his office, he represents this woman's former district.  It seems they have very high levels of tolerance for bizarre behavior down there.
