Report: Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl To Be Charged With Desertion

According to Retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer, Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was traded by the Obama administration for five high risk Taliban leaders last year, will be charged with desertion. Shaffer broke the news last night on the O'Reilly Factor.

"The Army has come to its conclusion, and Bowe Bergdahl, Sgt. Bergdahl, will be charged with desertion. I have been told and confirmed by a few other sources that his attorney was given what we call a charge sheet. A charge sheet is essentially the results of the investigation listing out the articles of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice that have been violated. The key violation is desertion," Shaffer said. "The decision has been made."

The Army has reportedly been sitting on the results of the investigation into Bergdahl for months, raising questions about conclusions and charges being held until after the 2014 midterm elections.

Last year when the Obama administration announced Bergdahl's release in a White House Rose Garden ceremony with his parents, fellow soldiers immediately started speaking out an condemned him as a deserter and some accused him of being a Taliban sympathizer. Not a single man from Bergdahl's platoon came forward to defend him.

"We knew that he had deserted. We knew that he was trying to find the Taliban," Former Army Sgt. and Team Leader Evan Buetow said during an interview last year.

White House National Security Advisor Susan Rice said at the time that Bergdahl had served the United States with "honor and distinction."

When the Army officially announces desertion charges for Bergdahl, it will be confirmed once again that President Obama traded five enemies of the United States for an Army Sgt. who betrayed his country.
