Former Vice President Joe Biden on Monday told voters in New Hampshire he would be open to choosing a Republican running mate, although he said he couldn't think of any particular person at the moment.
The statement was made after a woman in the audience mentioned Biden "pulling out all the stops," CNN reported.
"Our 21-year-old son said the other night, 'I wonder if Joe Biden would consider choosing a Republican as a running mate," the woman said.
"The answer is I would, but I can't think of one now," Biden replied. "Let me explain that. You know there's some really decent Republicans that are out there still, but here's the problem right now ... they've got to step up."
CBS News' Bo Erickson shared the quote on Twitter and people were instantly disgusted.
.@JoeBiden was asked if he would consider choosing a Republican running mate if he is nominee for a show-of-force unity ticket:

“I would” Biden said but added he couldn’t think of anyone at the moment.
Progressives see this as another disqualifying factor.
How many times does this guy have to say something completely disqualifying?

If u still support Biden after he said he would consider a Republican VP, I have no words...this is insanity. It is based on ignorance about what motivates voters and why they voted for Trump. It was NOT for bipartisanship. They will not reward you for this Joe...retire now

Joe Biden's stated goal for running for president is to "save the soul of America" from Trump sliding us into right-wing authoritarianism and his plan to do this is to pull the only left-leaning party further to the right. https://t.co/vB2qRIwl6L

The oldest person ever elected to the Presidency with a Republican VP.
Yikes.
An 80 year old with a Republican VP... what a great idea, Joe. https://t.co/I9Zzc6pRKU

At least us conservatives see this for what this is.
Biden has said he would consider a Republican VP so he can appeal to the Never Trumpers he thinks will actually matter.

All two dozen of them.
Considering how pissed off the Left seems to be about this, not sure he really thought it through.
Quid Pro Joe would have a Republican VP. The real question is what Republican would want to run with this clown?

The election is a little more than 11 months away and Biden's campaign continues to get more interesting as the days go on. What will he think of next?
