Many years ago, I got into a heated discussion with a colleague. She believed in pacifism — radical pacifism. "If someone attacked me, I would not fight back," she said. "Violence solves nothing." Setting aside the fact we have millennia of human history disproving that, I asked her a question: "What if someone were attacking your child?"
"I wouldn't fight them. Violence is always wrong."
I was stunned. I was a young mother at the time, with two small children at home (my third wasn't born yet). The thought of letting anything happen to them was appalling to me. Now they're 19, 17, and 13 — all of them taller and stronger than me — and I stand by that. Anyone who hurts my children will regret it.
Radical pacifism is just as bad as being a violent warmonger. Both show a blatant disregard for human life; only one is dressed up as moral virtue. It's not. In fact, I would argue it's worse than being indiscriminately violent because you refuse to act to appease your political ideology.
So when I learned that some French citizens showed a little bit of spine and threw boiling water on looters, I was glad to see someone fighting back, albeit with a medieval bent.
The usual suspects, however, were not happy about this.
This is worse than looting by a huge amount https://t.co/nH5ZnKWjOk

We see this every time the Left riots, loots, and burns cities to the ground.
"It's just property," they argue. "Human life is more important than stuff."
It is, but the people showing disregard for human life are not the French citizens with the steaming pots of water. It's the looters and guys like Evan who applaud and enable them. They have put their political agenda and their desire for — bluntly — free s**t ahead of regard for human life, specifically their own. They have also no regard for civil society, the basis on which humans live in peace and prosperity.
For many people, French or otherwise, victimized by the mobs, the stores that were looted or burned were not part of some big, faceless, corporate conglomerate. They were small businesses owned by people just trying to make a living. And the Left cheered on the destruction of their livelihood — another example of its disregard for human life — and then sneered at the men and women left to clean up the mess.
"You have insurance! Think about the suffering these people experienced!" No, actually. Most insurance plans don't cover civil unrest, and none of the people looting the local shop are suffering enough to justify their behavior. They're simply violent, spoiled, overgrown children who have never been told "no" by any adult in their lives. And even if it did, how does perpetuating that suffering fix anything for anyone?
It doesn't.
What's more alarming is that the Venn diagram of people appalled by this display of resistance (I thought the Left loved resistance?) and those who cheered the death of Charlie Kirk for saying "mean things" in public is a circle. It's more proof that the Left has no code or consistency beyond its endless pursuit of power.
Violent mobs of Muslims and Antifa goons burning Paris? It helps their cause, and is therefore good.
A husband and a dad challenging left-wing orthodoxy using his First Amendment rights? That's a crime worthy of the death penalty.
These people are not moral, and they are not right. They are the embodiment of chaos, who want the world to burn so they can gain even a modicum of political power.
